Kobe to Charlotte?

Posted on Jun 01 2007 | Tagged as: Blogroll

Michael Jordan has to be jumping up and down right now, since Kobe Bryant mentioned he wants to leave LA and play elsewhere. Rick Bonnell poses the question: Should Bobcats explore Kobe Bryant deal?

Should they?  I say yes.  Attendance needs a boost, and Kobe would certainly bring in fans.  Charlotte can afford him.  Biggest problem is that it would destroy the development of the young team that Bickerstaff was working on…Charlotte would certainly have to trade several good players, probably Gerald Wallace and their #8 draft pick.  I’d throw in Matt Carroll too, even though I like having him off the bench.  And if they act now, they can get Sean May for free!
Can get rid of Okafor, Felton, Brezec, or Morrison, but I could certainly see most anyone available for a Kobe trade.

I don’t see the trade happening, but it’s nice to hope!

Summertime is here

Posted on May 31 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

School’s out for the summer. In fact, it’s a longer summer due to S.C.’s mandatory late-start date where schools have to wait until mid-August to start. Lots going on…2 conferences (maybe 3), teaching 2 weeks, writing an online course. Most importantly, spending time with family and watching Evan grow up!

Congratulations to Danny and Nichole!

It was a beautiful Spring day in Columbia on Saturday and the wedding festivities were beautiful.  Nichole was beautiful, Danny handsome, and the Best Man didn’t look half-bad either!

I choked through my toast, but got out the thoughts I wanted to convey.  I am so excited to have Nichole as a part of the family, both to enjoy her company and to keep Danny in line!

There were dozens of cameras around, so if you took pictures at the wedding, post them online and post a link in the comments.  I’ll bring that link to the main post page.  I’d imagine that Danny will add links to the dannyandnichole.com page once they return from Hawaii.

Shooting my first HD wedding

Posted on Mar 17 2007 | Tagged as: Technology

My brother is getting married next weekend, and I’m the Best Man. I’m also into videoing weddings and am going to record their wedding. Being on the alter and running a camera at the same time should be interesting…

Meanwhile, I decided that I’d try my hand at shooting in High Definition. I’ve acquired a few HD cameras, including this one from Amazon, the HDV-HC7. It’s brand-new and the update to the HC3 that I’ve used once or twice before. I love the picture from the HC3, so I figured I’d get a newer camera for the weekend. It’ll be a third camera. Since they’re all going to be static (no one moving the cameras around during the ceremony) I’m looking forward to the widescreen view of the cameras.

I’ve also picked up a Sony FX1 to use hand-held during the reception, and other times throughout the weekend. It’s gotten great reviews, except for low-lighting. I have two Sony VX2000’s and their low-light quality is very impressive. I’ve heard that the FX1 isn’t quite as good, but it should work for this wedding.

My favorite laptop bag

This summer I got a new widescreen laptop from work, upgrading from a 15″ laptop. The new HP laptop (nc8230) is pretty nice…good battery life, nice screen, pretty light. Problem was, my old laptop bag wouldn’t hold it.

After looking around for a while, I finally settled on this backpack, the Maxxum Red Wenger bag. Using the Swiss Army logo on it, it is just as useful as a Swiss Army knife. Plenty of room and pockets, convenient pocket on top for keys and an iPod, cable management system for headphones, etc. I love the backpack, and wanted to let you know too!
